The trial everyone loves

opal ridge trails

Just 25 minutes from Smithers, the Opal Ridge Trail offers a short but rewarding alpine hike. After roughly 3.5 km of climbing to the alpine, the views open up into a full 360° panorama, with wildflower meadows, rock outcrops, and sweeping mountain ridgelines in every direction.

You’ll gain roughly 610 m of elevation from trailhead to summit, making for a solid workout. The trail is well defined until the treeline, and above that transitions into more rugged alpine terrain. Some scrambling and route-finding may be required near the top.

Along the way, you’ll pass through forested slopes, patches of scree, and open alpine ridges. The descent reverses your ascent, so be especially careful in loose rock or steep sections.
