Explore The Trails

The Smithers area offers trails for every season and every pace. In summer you can hike through wildflower meadows, climb into the alpine for wide-open views, or bike through forest singletrack that flows down toward the valley. In winter, those same routes transform into quiet paths for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and backcountry touring.

Many of these trails begin only a few minutes from town, yet they lead to places that feel completely remote. Families can enjoy easy walks to waterfalls and lakes, while more adventurous visitors can set out for full-day treks across ridgelines and into the mountains. Whatever the season, the trails offer a way to slow down, breathe fresh air, and discover the landscapes that define the Bulkley Valley.

Exploring them is more than just recreation. It is part of the rhythm of life in Smithers, a way to connect with the land, the seasons, and the community that calls this place home.

Seaton Ridge trails

The trail rises to an unnamed prominence (~1,994 m) just east of Mount Seaton (2,036 m). It offers “superb views down into the Seaton Basin … out to local ranges (Stegyoden mountain range ( Rocher Deboule ), Hudson Bay, Telkwa, Babine, Goat and Blunt) and beyond. It begins through the forest, climbs steadily, then transitions to the ridge, the final section has some steep terrain. One of the easier alpine trails and one of the best. Follow the trail up the ridge. Watch for mountain goats and moose
