Started in 1987 as the Bulkley Valley Youth Soccer Association, the Bulkley Valley Soccer Society has grown from around 135 young players in Smithers into a valley-wide organization serving over 800 kids a year across Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, Witset, and Hazelton.

BVSS runs entirely on volunteers, from board members and coaches to team managers, and offers programs for every age and level, from house league grassroots soccer to competitive development teams and adult leagues.

"A safe soccer community of fulfilled, healthy, active people."

Nearly Four Decades of Youth Soccer

BVSS traces back to 1987, when the Bulkley Valley Youth Soccer Association was formed to take over organizing youth soccer from the Town of Smithers. Neil Floyd served as the first chairman, with around 135 players signed up between the ages of 5 and 11.

By 1993, Telkwa had become a full member, and by 1995 registrations had climbed to roughly 280 players with the association's first elected board. In 1999, the organization hired its first administrator and pushed for new fields, a step that shaped the club's growth for years to come.

Today, BVSS operates programs across Houston, Smithers, Telkwa, Witset, and Hazelton, with more than 800 kids taking part each year, alongside adult recreational leagues for the whole community.

BVSS is proud of its coaching and administration too: Georgia Mack was named BC Soccer's 2020 Administrator of the Year, and Daniel Imhof was named BC Soccer's 2020 Coach of the Year.
