How one Swiss family turned a forgotten wilderness property into a place to reconnect with nature

There are places you visit for a night, and then there are places that make you want to slow down and stay awhile. Tucked among the forests and mountains near Kitseguecla Lake, Rocky Ridge Resort is one of those places.
What began as a Swiss family's dream has grown into a unique wilderness retreat, where rustic cabins, wildlife, mountain views, and family hospitality come together on roughly 105 acres of Northern British Columbia backcountry.

The Story
A Dream Begins in Northern BC
For the family behind Rocky Ridge Resort, the journey began in October 2012, on their first visit to the property. They fell in love with the landscape immediately — the mountains, forests, lake, and peacefulness of Northern British Columbia stayed with them.
Years later, when they discovered the resort was still for sale, they took the leap. In April 2016, the family became the new owners of a property that had sat closed and vacant for more than ten years.
Restoring Rocky Ridge became a family project. Rather than simply renovating, the family worked together to repair, restore, and improve its cabins, buildings, trails, and surrounding spaces — each person bringing different skills to a shared vision of a wilderness home.
Today the resort sits on approximately 105 acres surrounded by mountains, forest, and wildlife — and the family didn't just build a business, they built a home they now share with guests.

Instead of a screen, guests get a wood stove, a campfire, and a night sky. It's a chance to remember what it feels like to be somewhere quiet — and after a day outside, to warm up in the resort's traditional wood-fired sauna.
